Artist Statement:
Working in the Psychological Landscape Genre of Art. Simpkin-Hill paints to recreate her memory of an encounter with a sparrow, followed by a momentary vision of a spiritual white light. Mysteriously giving me courage and a powerful sense of self-belief—peace in a world of pain and freedom from anxiety.
Her image also graces the cover of the Walker & Hall Waiheke Art Award exhibition catalogue. With its cool calm vibe, a central sparrow spirit glides above a mystical shadowless landscape, against a starry Matariki sky. (Pleiades star cluster)
